Why should your website follow Accessibility Best Practices?

It’s the Right Thing to Do

By striving for Accessibility compliance it ensures that people of all abilities and disabilities can access and navigate your website effectively. It promotes inclusivity, equal opportunity, and a positive user experience for everyone, regardless of their physical or cognitive limitations.

Enhance User Experience

Accessibility compliance offers a seamless and enjoyable user experience for everyone. It’s not just about accessibility for individuals with disabilities; it’s about creating a user-friendly interface that is easy to navigate, understand, and interact with, providing a superior experience that keeps visitors engaged and more likely to convert into loyal customers or followers.

Stay Ahead of the Competition

Implementing accessibility standards can give you an advantage over your competition that has not embraced these best practices. You are able to demonstrate your commitment to inclusivity and potentially gain a competitive edge.

Build Trust and Brand Reputation

Accessibility is more than just a legal requirement; it’s a reflection of your brand’s values and commitment to social responsibility. By doing this, you build trust with your customers and brand followers. They see that you care about providing equal opportunities for all individuals and are more likely to view your brand positively.

Mitigate Legal Risks

As accessibility laws and regulations continue to evolve, non-compliance can expose your organization to legal risks and potential lawsuits. By striving to adhere to WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines, you are reducing the risk of legal issues. This not only protects your organization but could also save you from potentially costly legal battles.

Boost Conversion and Revenue

An accessible website can lead to increased conversions and revenue. When your website is easy to use and accessible to a wider audience, it encourages visitors to engage with your content, make purchases, and take desired actions. By optimizing your website for accessibility, you create a seamless user journey that maximizes conversions and drives revenue growth.

Our Tools and Processes

Initial Testing and Benchmarking

Upon enrolling in the iBec Accessibility Program, iBec will utilize our reporting tools to generate baseline accessibility scores. Each website will utilize our auditing tools to create an initial list of fixes and/or adjustments needed to set benchmark Accessibility scores. This will allow us to track our progress as we get closer to conformity with Level A or Level AA according to the WCAG 2.1 guidelines.

Initial Fixes and Adjustments

Once we’ve generated these benchmark scores, we’re able to get to work trying to improve that score and ultimately strive to comply with the WCAG 2.1 guideline chosen. This may involve development and slight design changes across multiple pages to comply.

Accessibility Statement

After our initial round of fixes, we’re able to generate an Accessibility statement which will be linked in the footer of your website similar to how a terms and conditions or privacy statement may be. This statement will outline the work we’ve done towards complying with a specific level of accessibility and how to contact you with questions or concerns with regard to accessibility.

Ongoing Fixes and Updates

Once we’ve gotten through the initial benchmarking, fixes, and accessibility statement creation we move into the maintenance phase. Each month or quarter (depending on the program cadence) we will re-run scans and fix any new issues that may have been introduced. We will then update the accessibility statement to include any new findings. This will make sure everything is kept up to date along with outlining the ongoing effort to make the site as accessible to everyone as possible.

Our Programs

The iBec Accessibility Program is broken into 3 options each including a monthly or quarterly timing cadence.

  • Option 1 strives to reach WCAG 2.1 Level A conformity
  • Option 2 strives to reach WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformity
  • Option 3 builds on Option 2 by adding an element of manual testing. These are non-automated and utilize actual tools and simulators website users may use in the real world.

Each option has a 1‑time onboarding cost which includes the initial auditing, fixes, and accessibility statement followed by a maintenance fee charged depending on the monthly or quarterly cadence chosen. Option pricing is determined by the size and type of website.

note: no amount of accessibility audits or improvements to your website will free you from potential complaints or lawsuits against your organization. The goal of these programs is to reduce that risk. Websites can become more or less accessible over time, so it’s important that accessibility be a consistent priority and not just a one-time investment.
